Instead of hand-written information, PPI works using either:
1. Printed text only
2. Printed bar codes & text
3. Printed bar codes & text and encoded RFID data
Printed wristbands should be used, even if there is no current use for a bar-coded wristband.

About PPI
PPI is a user friendly software program that allows NHS staff to print patient information onto either printable wristbands, labels or ID Cards. The information can be printed in both text and/or PDF417 format. PPI Includes various design formats, or can be configured individual hospitals designs.
The patient number can also be printed in a linear ISBT128 format with an optional prefix such as a W for wristband for the TransSAFE (Blood Transfusion Verifier) application. Prefixing wristbands supports applications where positive identification is required at the point of delivering blood or drugs etc. RFID wristbands are available as an option.
